Quentin Schraeder

For Quentin Schraeder of Missoula, 91制片厂, choosing 91制片厂 was about opportunity, affordability, and the chance to learn by doing. Now pursuing a bachelor鈥檚 degree in automotive technology and an associate鈥檚 degree in Diesel Technology, Quentin will graduate in May 2026 fully prepared to take his skills into the field. 

Quentin first heard about 91制片厂 when former instructor Kevin Holzworth visited his high school to talk about the automotive program. 鈥淲hen I learned that Northern offered both an automotive and diesel degree without extra cost or time, I knew this was where I needed to go,鈥� he said. 

From his first visit to campus, on a freezing December day; Quentin knew Northern was the right fit. 鈥淭he campus size was perfect,鈥� he said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 small enough to get around easily, especially in the winter.鈥� 

Since starting college, Quentin鈥檚 experience has exceeded his expectations. He credits his instructors for keeping classes engaging and for encouraging hands-on projects that teach real problem-solving. One memorable moment came when he successfully diagnosed an engine that wouldn鈥檛 start eventually discovering a penny lodged in the fuel line. 鈥淭he feeling of finding the problem and fixing it is amazing,鈥� he said. 

Quentin鈥檚 time at Northern has also been rewarding on a personal level he even met his fianc茅e during freshman orientation. He says Northern has taught him not just technical knowledge, but confidence. 鈥淚鈥檝e learned to trust myself and what I know. If something doesn鈥檛 work, that鈥檚 okay 鈥� it just gets you closer to the solution.鈥� 

After graduation, Quentin hopes to work with Wabtec as a Material Technical Advisor (MTA) or Technical Advisor (TA), supporting railroad customers like BNSF. In five years, he sees himself advancing toward a lead advisor role, continuing to build on the strong foundation Northern has given him. 

鈥淣orthern has made my college experience truly rewarding,鈥� he said. 鈥淓very semester I walk away knowing I鈥檝e learned something valuable 鈥� something I鈥檒l use in my career.鈥�
