The Industrial and Engineering Technology Department at 91制片厂 State University-Northern offers majors and minors in Computer Information Systems, Design Drafting, Engineering Technology (Civil, Electronics, and Manufacturing), and Metals Technologies. Associate of Science degrees require a two year study of the technical skills and underlying principles needed for entry into a career at the technician level. Bachelor of Science degrees require four years of study, and provide design and problem solving techniques needed for entry into a career as a technologist.

Within the spectrum of technical education, the programs stand between engineering sciences and vocational training, with more hands-on laboratory applications than engineering sciences, and more emphasis on applied mathematics and science foundations than vocational training. Each program offers students the opportunity to earn university credit while working through 91制片厂 State University-Northern's Cooperative Education courses.

INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

A collaborative arrangement between the Industrial Technology Departments at 91制片厂 State University-Northern and Western 91制片厂 College of the University of 91制片厂 has been developed to enhance the student's educational experience.

Students working toward an Industrial Technology Education degree at Western 91制片厂 College can attend 91制片厂 State University-Northern for a portion of their schooling and concentrate in one or more of the following areas:

Autobody

Auto Mechanics

Drafting

Electronics

Machine

Shop Metal Working

Welding

Power Mechanics

Students attending 91制片厂 State University-Northern can earn a degree in Industrial Technology Education by completing the necessary education oriented courses at WMC. Those students would also have to complete courses required for their degree at 91制片厂 State University-Northern.

Students interested in either option should contact their advisors for additional information.

COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS

The Computer Information Systems (CIS) program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for careers in business and industry as CIS professionals. Typical careers include user support specialists, trainers, applications programmers, programmer analysts, and systems analysts. 91制片厂 State University-Northern offers an Associate of Science Degree in CIS, the CIS minor, CIS Education Minor, and a Bachelor of Arts.

DRAFTING TECHNOLOGY

The Design Drafting Technology program is composed of drafting, general education, and basic skills courses which meet accreditation requirements of the American Design Drafting Association (ADDA) for three specific certifications: Drafting Technology AS, Design Drafting AS, and Design Drafting BS. Opportunities for employment exist in State and Federal government agencies, public utilities, engineering and architectural firms, transportation, and manufacturing design and development industries. Students have access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities in computer aided drafting and design.

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

The Civil Engineering Technology program is designed to prepare the graduate for a career in the civil/construction industry. The Associate Degree in Engineering Technology-Civil Engineering Technology prepares graduates to be surveying technicians, structural engineering technicians or public works technicians. The Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Technology-Civil Engineering Technology produces graduates who are survey engineering technologists, structural engineering technologists or public works technologists. Current emphasis includes: surveying, geographical information systems, global positioning systems, structural design, construction of facilities and testing of building and transportation materials.

The Engineering Technology-Electronics Engineering Technology Associate Degree provides graduates with entry level skills as electronics technicians in various disciplines. Such skills include troubleshooting and repair, report generation, terminology, soldering, use of hand tools, and specialized test equipment. The Bachelor's degree prepares graduates to enter a career as an engineering assistant, electronics technology specialist, or advanced electronic service technician in areas such as research and development, field service, technical sales support, biomedical, and the manufacturing of communications equipment, microcomputers, or industrial automation.

The Manufacturing Technology curriculum provides the education and training necessary for the graduate to work with craftspeople, engineers, management, and others involved in services and the manufacturing of goods. Employment for the manufacturing technologist may include coordination of design, production, fabrication, supervision, quality assurance, and management.

METALS TECHNOLOGY

The Metals Technology curriculum provides the education and skills necessary for graduates to enter metalworking occupations such as machining, welding, maintenance, and repair. These service people are skilled workers who maintain, repair, and construct various mechanical devices and projects. The program includes an Associate degree as well as certificates in machining and welding.

RAILROAD MAINTENANCE & OPERATION

The railroad operations curriculum is an Associate's degree designed to be completed in two years and meet certification under the authority of the Railroad Training Consortium. Requirements include general education courses, courses in railroad history, crafts, operations, safety & environment, and maintenance or office operations.
